Why have you not been able to lose weight?
You’re here right now because you’re struggling with your weight, you’re tired of yo-yo dieting, and you just can’t seem to lose weight and get in shape. But why have you not been able to lose weight? Is there something wrong with you?
Are you physically capable of losing weight exercising? Yes.
Are you physically capable of eating healthier? Yes.
Are you physically capable of eating less junk food? Yes.
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then you are physically capable of losing weight.
So then what’s the problem? The problem is that you are not yet mentally capable of doing what is necessary to lose weight and get in shape. To put it another way, you do not yet have the mindset that is going to enable you to exercise more, eat healthier, and snack less.
“Yet” is the keyword, because mindsets can be changed.
But right now, you are telling yourself too many stories.
You tell yourself that you don’t have the time or energy to exercise, that after work you just want to ‘relax’ and have a beer, glass of wine, or watch television.
You tell yourself that health foods are bland and boring.
You tell yourself that you can’t fight your cravings and that it is too hard to lose weight.
The problem is you have too many excuses, too many reasons, too many stories you are telling yourself as to why you cannot change.
But let’s the change the rules, if I put a gun to your head and said if you don’t begin doing these things I’m going to pull the trigger… what happens to all of your excuses? They go away real quick! All of a sudden you’re both physically AND mentally capable of losing weight. (This is exactly what happens in a less direct way, when a doctor tells someone that if they don’t lose weight, they are going to die).
What about your lack of willpower and self-control?
You think you don’t have the willpower or self-control necessary to lose weight and get in shape, but the truth is you simply don’t have the mindset.
You would rather relax on the couch than go to the gym.
You would rather eat what is convenient than take the time to choose what is healthy.
You would rather have a sugary snack than risk feeling unsatisfied.
You know what you should be doing (you know you should be exercising more, eating healthier, and snack less) and you are physically capable of doing it. So what’s the problem? Your problem is not a lack of knowledge, your problem is a lack of execution.

You don’t need a new diet or exercise program to lose weight, what you need is to learn how to begin acting on the information you already have and on what you already know you should be doing.
You need to learn how do get yourself to stop making excuses and go to the gym even after you’ve had a long day at work.
You need to learn how can you get yourself to begin eating (and even enjoying) healthier, more nutritious foods even though you currently find them to be bland and boring.
You need to learn how can you fight your cravings for desserts, sweets, and other unhealthy foods and snacks.
And most importantly you need to learn how can you lose weight without losing your joy for food and life because those are the keys to redesigning your new lifestyle.
The key to losing weight is lifestyle redesign. The key to designing your lifestyle is recreating your mindset and making the mental shifts necessary that make exercising as regular a part of your life as showering.
Think about it, how many days per week do you go without showering? Now imagine how much easier it would be for you to lose weight and get in shape if you had the mindset that enabled you to exercise as often as you showered.
Don’t say it’s impossible simply because you haven’t done it yet, because with the right mindset, anything is possible.
